A 5.2-acre green deck park sitting atop a sunken freeway in central Dallas exists in large part because of a $10 million commitment from Kelcy Warren. The Energy Transfer Executive Chairman made that donation in 2012, providing the catalytic private funding that helped transform a divided stretch of downtown Dallas into one of the city’s most beloved gathering spaces.

Expanding the Vision

Warren’s investment in the park did not stop with its creation. Kelcy Warren later contributed an additional $20 million to support expansion efforts and allow the park to offer more free programs to the public. Both gifts were made through his broader pattern of charitable giving in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where he has directed resources toward civic infrastructure, medical care, and youth programming.

He also serves on the board of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation, the nonprofit organization responsible for managing Klyde Warren Park. That ongoing involvement reflects the kind of engaged philanthropy that has come to characterize Warren’s charitable work more broadly.

Energy Sector Recognition

The same qualities Warren has brought to philanthropic endeavors, long-term thinking and willingness to commit capital to ambitious projects, have defined his work at Energy Transfer. He has received awards from Hart Energy, the Texas Oil and Gas Association, and D CEO Magazine, and holds membership in both the Texas Business Hall of Fame and the Horatio Alger Association.

Kelcy Warren was also named a 2020 Laureate in the Dallas Business Hall of Fame, presented by Junior Achievement of Dallas. He has been appointed to the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees and the University of Texas System Board of Regents, appointments that underscore the range of civic roles he has taken on alongside his energy industry career.
